Red House were crowned the champions of the annual Gambia College Inter House athletics championship whichended at the Independence Stadium in Bakau last Thurasay 4th June 2009, for the second successive year after collecting an impressive amount of 216 points, despite facing a serious challenge from their closest rivals, Blue House who finished second on 211 points, with only five points separating them and the champions.

Green and Yellow House who both put up a respectable performance finished third and fourth, after registering 160 and 180 points, respectively.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the event, Lamin Danso, whose house has succeeded in retaining its title, spoke with delight for the numerous achievements registered by his athletes. But he was quick to reveal that discipline, hard work and commitment were the key to his side's success.

'We all know how difficult it takes to retain a championship title, especially when you are facing competition with formidable sides, but we thank God for making our dream successful in this championship," the elated house captain told reporters.

The head of sports department at the Gambia College, Sulayman Cole, told reporters that "it has not been easy for the students during the past few years, but due to hard work and commitment of the students council, the principal,  and the members of the staff this time around, everything has gone as planned", Mr. Cole explained.

He went further to commend the students council, the principal and staff for what he described as their valuable contribution towards the success of this year's event and urged them to keep up the momentum.

'We will not stop here, this is just a starting point for us," Sulayman Cole stated.

Other speakers at the occasion included the Sports minister of the Gambia College Yorro Cham, Philomena Jatta who is described as the most outstanding athlete in the College.
