Eight Schools Qualify for GSSSA finals

Four senior secondary schools and four upper basic schools booked their tickets to the Gambia Secondary Schools Sport Association GSSSA football and volleyball finals.

Eight schools went to semi finals for the football matches last week Friday played at three deferent venues namely, Fifa Goal Project in Old Yundum, Abuko Upper Basic School and New Yundum Village Football Pitch, all in the Western Region. Speaking to Pointsport shortly after the end of the semi finals on Friday, the secretary general of the GSSSA Alhagie S. Darboe, said the finals for the qualified schools will be played when all schools have completed their 2008/2009 third term examinations.
Mr. Darboe expressed his satisfaction in the way his association organised the tournament and he commended the participating school heads for allowing their school teams to participate in the tournament especially the school teams from Bansang, Armitage, Farafenni and Kaur Senior Secondary Schools who came from the far regions of the country.
According to Mr. Darboe when the date for the finals is decided, it will be communicated to the qualified school teams and all those concerned.

The keenly contested football semi finals for senior secondary schools produced the results of a thrilling encounter, Bottrop SS - 1, Siffoe SS - 0, St Augustine SS - 1, Gambia SS - 0, and football semis results for upper basic schools, Tallinding UBS - 3, Latri Kunda UBS - 4 and Abuko UBS - 0, Brikama UBS - 2. For the volleyball semi final results for senior secondary schools, St Augustine SS - 2, Gambia SS - 1, Muslim SS - 1, Farafeni SS - 2, and the upper basic schools volleyball results also stands at: Bakalarr UBS - 1, St Augustine's - 2 and Abuko UBS - 2, Kombo Kerewan UBS - 0.

The teams to lock horns for the football in senior secondary schools category are Bottrop SS Vs St Augustine SS and the school teams also to lock horn in the football upper basic category are Latri Kunda UBS Vs BRIKAMA UBS.

In the volleyball finals in the senior secondary schools level, St Augustine SS meets Farafeni SS, and spectators can expect galore entertainment and thrill when the volleyball finals engage the upper basic schools of Abuko and St Augustine's. By the time of going to press all the participating school teams have returned to their various schools.
