Dutch national trial continues

Haruna Jallow of Bijilo village recently continued his testimony as fourth prosecution witness (PW4) in the trial involving one Wadad A. Buhl, a Dutch national, accused of criminal trespass and theft, at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Dayoh Small.

The particulars of the offence in count one stated that the accused person and one Buba Singhateh in 2013 entered the land owned by one Haruna Jallow, at Bijilo in Kombo North district of the West Coast Region, and remained on the said land with intent to intimidate or annoy the said Haruna Jallow.

Count 2 stated that the accused on the same month, year and at the same place, fraudulently converted blocks valued at D66,900 owned by the said Haruna Jallow with intent to deprive Haruna Jallow of the said blocks.

Continuing his testimony, Haruna Jallow said he travelled out of the country after moulding the said blocks in 2000 and he paid the person who moulded the blocks before he travelled.

He said when he returned in January 2013, he found the accused person had sold all the moulded blocks, adding that he reported the matter to the police station and an investigation was mounted.

According to him, during the investigation, the accused person was called at the police and she was asked by the police in the presence of the witness, and the accused told the police that she sold the said blocks because the sand and cement which was used to mould the blocks belonged to her.

Jallow added that when he visited the land, he found some people working on the said land making foundation but he did not know those people and he reported the matter to the police.

He said that during the investigation, the accused told the police she was the one who gave the land to the witness and she was the one who took it from him and sold it.

The matter was then adjourned till 5 August 2014.
