Commonwealth President Conferred Honorary Citizenship of Banjul

The Deputy Mayor of Banjul City Council, Mr. Winston Shyngle, on behalf of the Mayor of Banjul Samba Faal recently conferred honorary citizenship of Banjul to the visiting president of the Commonwealth Games federation, Hon Michael Fennell at a ceremony held at the BCC Chambers in Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Mayor of Banjul City Council Mr Winston Shyngle said the Commonwealth Federation has been contributing positively towards sports development in the world and The Gambia is proud to be a member of the Commonwealth.

He stated that it is fitting for his council to confer such an important award to outstanding personalities who contribute their quota to the development of sports across the globe.

In officially receiving the certificate of honour bestowed on him by the Banjul City Council, Hon Michael Fennell said the award is significant for him and his delegation.

He commended BCC for the award, noting that this will go a long way in his life and the Commonwealth family.

He informed those gathered that the Commonwealth Games is organised every four years.

The president of The Gambia National Olympic Committee, Mr. Abou Dandeh Njie, and the rest of the visiting Commonwealth delegation who are currently in the country accompanied president Fennell to the occasion.
