50-Year Old Arrested, Detained for Raping an 11-year- old girl

Reports reaching this paper have it that one Victor Jatta, 50, of Banjul was last Saturday arrested and is currently helping the police in their investigations over allegations surrounding the rape of an 11-year old girl, an offence that carries up to a 14 year jail term.

Sources said the man called the helpless little girl into his room on the pretext that he was going to give her some money, only to rape her.

Neighbours' accounts have it that the man is fond of such ungodly acts.

Readers will recall that one Momodou Bah , a herdsman, was recently arrested in Jareng, Central River Region for allegedly raping an 11-year old girl in Niamina Pinyai.

President Jammeh was earlier this year quoted as expressing his government's total condemnation of rape, drug trafficking and armed robbery of any form in this country, saying such acts would not be accepted in The Gambia.

This was however re-echoed by Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, leader of the opposition United Democratic Party, who said that the time has come for him not to defend anybody involved in armed robbery, rape and drug trafficking cases in any law courts.
