Thursday, April 17, 2008

Almodou Jarju, alias Bainglo, the Alkalo of Sohm Village in Kombo East district has been removed.

Mr. Jaju's removal was announced by the Head Chief of the district Alhagie Basiru Jarju at the Kombo East District Tribunal yesterday.

Jarju was arraigned before Chief Basiru on the offence of illegally removing forest properties and conniving to fell a mahogany tree as well as charcoal burning.

He pleaded not guilty to all these and other charges. However three people testified against him thus proving him guilty. He was convicted as a consequence.

He was initially fined D19,500 but upon his begging for mercy the Chief reduced the fine to D10,000 in default to serve one year in jail.

The Chief advised Mr. Jarju to change his attitude and adopt one that will be an example to others.
