YJAG Concludes Workshop for Young Journalists

In fulfillment of its objectives, the Young Journalists Association of The Gambia (YJAG) on Monday held a one-day capacity building workshop for about forty of its members at NusratSeniorSecondary School in Bundung.

Speaking at the occasion, the president of the association Mr.Nfamara Jawneh promised his association's resolve in building the capacities of its members to enable them carry out their work effectively. "The aim of this workshop is again to build the capacity of young writers and journalists in basic journalism.

Thus, manifesting our resolve to empower the young writers and journalists with basic skills in journalism. There is no doubt that training is a critical element for human resource development of any organisation".

He encouraged the participants to take the training seriously and also share the skills acquired with colleagues out there.

"I hope that this will be the beginning of a successful journey for all of us in our quest to build a more skilful journalist foundation for this country," he said.

 "We will continue to provide young writers especially our members with the necessary skills it takes to become good and responsible journalist in the future. This would not however be possible without the support of all stakeholders. Thus, we call on all to give us the necessary support for the advancement of this young and promising association," he stated.

The participants were introduced to various forms of journalism, ethics, principles of journalism, reporting on gender and children among others.

Deputising The Gambia Press Union (GPU) President, Emil Touray, Secretary General of GPU, hailed YJAG for the initiative. He advised young journalists to always report the facts. He also commended the YJAG for their partnership with other journalist's organisations in the country including the GPU.

Abdou Kadir Daffeh president Nusrat Press club thanked YJAG for the workshop and for choosing his school to host the event.
