40 Inspectors Complete Development Course

africa » gambia
Thursday, August 14, 2008

At least 40 police inspectors recently completed their inspector development course two.

The training was formulated and organised to equip the officers with essential skills and knowledge to enable them to perform their various roles and responsibilities more effectively as supervisors and middle mangers of The Gambia Police Force. The ceremony was held at the police headquarters in Banjul.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Inspector General of Police, Essa Badgie, said that in-service training is the backbone of any institution such as the police force. This, he said, is because it does not only serve as a refresher but it also provides new knowledge and experience for all those taking part in it. The Police boss said his institution will always endeavour to continue organising similar training programmes for officers and staff in a drive to improve human resource capacity.

He promised the gathering that the third batch of inspectors will very shortly commence a similar training course and more will follow for the other categories of police hierarchy in the coming weeks and months

The IGP advised officers not to underestimate their roles and responsibilities in the police force as station officers, unit heads and supervisors. "In my opinion you are all important as far as the structure of the police force is concerned. You form the link between the senior and junior officers of the police force and this is the reason why you were the target group in an effort to improve and develop our human resource capacity," he said.

Other security chiefs attending the presentation were the commissioner of administration Jatta Baldeh, Edward Sambou commissioner of finance, PRO Police ASP Sluyman Secka and DIG Modou Gaye. All expressed similar sentiments.
