Man Fined for Obtaining Money By False Pretences

Monday, June 16, 2008

For failing to make good his promise of taking one SaidouBah to his friend in Japan even after receiving money from him to that effect, Modou Jallow of Tallinding has been fined D5,000 by a magistrates' court.

He was also ordered to pay a compensation of D40,000 to Bah after receiving D60,000 from him on pretext of taking him to his [Jallow] business partner in Japan.

When the charges were initially read to Jallow, he denied any malpractice but after a marathon trial, the Bundung Magistrates' Court became convinced that the prosecution, led by Inspector L.Touray, had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
