Libyan Leader Speaks on Initiative of President Sarkozy

Monday, April 07, 2008

The Libyan Leader, his Excellency Brother Muammar El-Ghadafi, has spoken at length on the initiative of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

A media release from the People’s Bureau of The Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in Banjul reveals that recently the leader of the Libyan Revolution made these remarks to the Great Jamahiriya News Agency. He said that the idea of real co-operation among countries overlooking the same sea, the Mediterranean Sea, is important. According to President Sakozy’s initiative it deserves support and he has always embraced it, but it appears that the idea is now being undermined and could face the same fate as the Barcelona Initiative which failed dismally.

The Leader observes that if the initiative is to succeed, it must be established on the sharing of the material benefits of the Mediterranean among the countries who overlook it and who assume it’s ownership. He noted the initiative should be distanced from all political, cultural and religious mines.

The Libyan Leader added that doing away with hateful imperial maps like the Othmania, Romania, Carthaginian and Islamic maps including Modern Colonial Maps is essential.

The Libyan stressed that the initiative should include those European countries overlooking the Mediterranean and only those African countries overlooking the Mediterranean for them to serve as link between the two continents. He urged all concerned not to allow a repeat of Barcelona initiative.  He noted that the dress must be tailored by the two parties themselves. “What we are seeing today is a party tailoring the dress for other parties to wear”, he said. Adding that there is a clear ignorance of the will and voice of the South and this is not in the interest of the success of the idea from the beginning.
