Closed Day Care and Nursery School Needs Support to Reopen

africa » gambia » wuli
Monday, April 07, 2008

The Barrow Kunda Day Care and Nursery school in the Wuli West District in Upper River Region (URR) is in desperate need of support to reopen.

After more than two years closure the Parent Teacher Association PTA of Barrow Kunda day care and nursery school is seeking support from non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to come to their aid.

According to the PTA chairperson, Mrs. Matta Fatty, the school had a population of 110 pupils who were attending the school before its closure.

Upon my recent visit to the village I also visited said school. The centre has two classrooms, store and a chicken with three volunteer cooks.

The closure of the first and only nursery and day care has deprived the children of the school of access to an early childhood education.

The nursery and day care centre is located at the right side of the village and its building is in good condition.

Those who may wish to contribute to the revival of the nursery and day care can contact  00220 9868882 or email:beakanyang@yahoo.com
