The Smiling Coast of Africa will in the next 24 hours host one of the biggest international events in the country’s history.
The 15th Edition of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Islamic Summit Conference, means a lot to The Gambia and her people.

OIC is believed to be the second largest inter-governmental organisation with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The Islamic Summit, which is the largest meeting, attended by the Rulers and the Heads of State and Government of its member states, not only provides a unique opportunity to strengthen development and investment, but also helps in promoting tolerance and decision making and issues of concern to member states.

In essence, the organisation is the collective voice of the Muslim world. And it endeavours to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.

Held under the slogan, ‘Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development’, the summit will also witness deliberation on thematic issues facing the globe and to chart a way forward.

Therefore, the Smiling Coast is indeed proud to be associated in hosting this important event while welcoming all conference delegates to always feel at home.

Suffice it to state here that The Gambia is arguably one of the safest and friendliest places for visitors to explore. This is easily realised upon arrival amid hospitality received from locals.

Being the smallest country on mainland Africa, The Gambia boasts of natural wonders and sites of interest to the wider world. And we enjoin our beautiful visitors to explore and harness business opportunities in promoting trade and investment, thus creating employment.

With its 80 km (50 miles) coastline, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, The Gambia boasts magnificent golden beaches that allow visitors the chance to relax and make the most of their down time lying under the sun.

These beaches are on a 14.5 km (9 mile)-strip of wide and flat sandy shore, sometimes characterised by sand dunes, or narrow, rocky beachfronts at the bottom of low sandstone. One thing is for certain, The Gambia’s coastline is everything that you would expect of a tropical paradise, warm sea, miles and miles of uncrowded sandy beach and swaying palm trees. The country has relatively mild temperatures throughout the year and the favourable climate makes it a must-visit.

To other conference delegates and other international investors and other visitors, please take time to explore the country’s unique potentials and make your stay a memorable one.

Once again, we want to take this opportunity to welcome all our beautiful visitors to the Smiling Coast. Feel relaxed and enjoy every bit of your moment while on our shores.

It would be recalled that the OIC was established by the decision of the First Islamic Summit Conference held in Rabat on 22-25 September 1969, upon the reactions of the Islamic World, provoked by the arson attack against Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holy site in Islam and located in Israeli occupied Jerusalem, by an Australian extremist Jew on 21 August 1969.
