A woman was yesterday arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court for a charge of attempted murder.

Amie Jarjue, 20, is alleged to have attempted to murder her newly born baby on the 23rd March 2009 by burying her after delivery at Brikama.

She is facing another charge of concealing birth.

When the charge sheet was read to her she pleaded guilty.

She told the court that her father forced her into marriage to a man she does not like.

She adduced that the man uses force to the extent of beating her to go to bed with her.

She added that she became pregnant by that man and she returned to her home but was beaten and forced back by her father.

She told the court that later she returned to her home again where she gave birth to the baby without the knowledge of anybody and buried the baby. After burying the baby her brother came to the scene. She said she showed her brother the place the baby was buried before she attempted to run away, but she was apprehended. She said the child was exhumed while still alive.

The case was adjourned to 19th May 2009.
