Woman convicted for assault

A woman was recently convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve two months in prison.

She was also ordered to compensate the complainant in the sum of D5,000.

Fofo Makalo pleaded guilty for assaulting one Amie Jarju on her ear, as a result causing her actual bodily harm on 23rd July 2010 at Serekunda.

In her plea of mitigation, the convicted woman begged the court to temper justice with mercy on her, saying that it happened accidentally, and she had asked the complainant to forgive her.

In passing sentence, the trial Magistrate told he court that the case had suffered a lot of adjournment due to the convict's absence from court sittings.

He said the convict is a first time offender, and had showed remorse for her action.

Consequently, he convicted and sentenced her accordingly.
