Week Two Matches to a Tight Start

Thursday, February 26, 2009

The Academy boys, Samger, yesterday defeated Armed Forces 1-0 as part of week two matches of the Gambia Football Association premier league. Lamin Samateh in the 36th minute opened his record for the 2008/9 season giving his side the victory they needed after their goal-less draw in week one matches. The game played at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium, was tightly contested but the Khaki Boys, Armed Forces, succumbed to a second defeat in a row last evening.

In Brikama, Hawks was held to a goalless draw by Gamtel. The Red Devils had six clear chances of scoring but failed in the finishing touches.

The telecommunication Boys, Gamtel, went for a draw after playing a purely defensive game.

A goal from Bakau United's Amadou Baldeh separated them with their arch rivals, Steve Biko, at the Independence Stadium. One of the most discussed week two encounters also witnessed a dramatic performance by both sides.

The Real and Africell/Sait Matty game played in Manjai ended goalless.

Yesterday's week two matches have seen a number of Red cards. Amadou Sambou of Armed Forces was sent off by the Central Referee in the 43rd minute and Gamtel's Kabba Jobe in the 87th minute also received matching orders.

In the Bakau Derby match, Abdoulie Sidibeh of Steve Biko and Bakau United's Abdou Ceesay, were also shown Red in the 48 and 89 minutes respectively.

Report compiled by Pa Modou Faal, Soury Camara, Lamin Darbo & Fatoumatta Mboge
