Warriors Handball Club Hosts Kaffrine Club from Senegal

The Warriors Handball Club of Bakau hosted a friendly match against the Senegalese site from Kaffrine on Saturday, at the handball lawn at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The visiting site Kaffrine, who brought two teams, both males and female had suffered serious defeats, as both teams presented succumb to host.

The female side lost to Warriors by 9-3, while the clash between the male teams ended 17 -11 in favour of Warriors.

Speaking with the captain of Kaffrine Aminata Samara at the lawn, she said their team was not able to defend the Warriors from their counterattacks, as many of their players are on exams, especially their goalkeeper.

Amie Manneh, the captain of the Warrior female team who scored the bulk of their goals also told reporters that she owed gratitude to her coach and her mum, who had given her the chance to play handball.

According to her, they had capitalised on their counterattacks which is the most important thing in handball.

The Senegalese ambassador to The Gambia, Momodou Njie, who was also at the match expressed delight at the twinning and the initiative undertaken between the two countries.

He also said that the relationship between The Gambia and Senegal in the area of sport is one form of strengthening the good relationship that exists between the two sisterly countries.

His Excellency, the Ambassador finally stated that the Senegalese government is doing all efforts to see to it that handball and other disciplines of sports are developed to the fullest.

Pap Loum, the Head of the Kaffrine handball team told Pointsport what had prompted them to visit The Gambia.  He said that their relationship with the Gambian handball club has been in existence for a long time. He noted that most of his players love The Gambia to the extent that when they met the Warriors in Kaolack sometime ago, they wholeheartedly accepted their invitation.

He also went on to say that it is his conviction that handball can contribute a lot to the development of peace and sports in these two countries.

He finally disclosed that the handball league is slated for July 16.
