U17 fail the nation

The Gambia Under-17 football team's poor performance in the CAF Youth Championship under way in Rwanda came as a total shock to every soccer fan in the country.

The Gambia's team as defending champions received all the support from the government and the private sector, for the team to have a better preparation.

Yet, to the surprise of many, despite the two-week training camp the team had in Egypt, they still performed below the expectations of fans.

Now, the fundamental question people are asking is whether there is a need to continue with the GFA coaching staff or to appoint a foreign coach for the national teams in the various categories to run our football.

People also want to know whether it was the MRI test that contributed to the poor performance of the boys in Rwanda.

Whatever the case, there is a feeling in some quarters that it is high time for us to find solutions to the problems confronting our football.
