Two Police Corporals Discharged

Feb 13, 2009, 6:15 AM | Article By: Yarro Mballow

Two police officers, Cpl Mboob and Cpl Drammeh who were charged for the offence of obtaining bribery from commercial vehicles were recently discharged by the Banjul Magistrates' Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai.

The accused persons walked out of the court room as freemen following an application made by the defence counsel Lawyer Assan Martin on the ground the prosecution had not prepared to prosecute their case.

According to Lawyer A. Martins, it was unfair to hold the accused persons since October, 2008 without prosecution, adding that the accused persons are family members.

In discharging the accused persons, Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai posited that the case suffered as a result of lack of diligent prosecution. He therefore struck out the case and discharged the accused persons accordingly.
