Two Nigerians Jailed

Magistrate B.O. Jobe of the Bundung Magistrates' Court on 16th July 2009 convicted and sentenced Okekuku Okawnua and Benjamen George, both Nigerians to three years mandatory jail term for the offence of abduction. They were also ordered to compensate the complainant in the sum of D10, 000, in default to serve one year in prison.

The court also ordered the two Nigerians to be deported immediately upon completion of their sentence.

The third accused Fatou Sarr was given a suspended sentence of one year and if she violates, she would pay a fine of D10, 000, in default to serve one year in prison.

According to the Magistrate, the third accused is a breastfeeding mother.

In delivering the judgment, the Presiding Magistrate stated that the three accused persons pleaded for mercy as they are first time offenders.

He said the court is of the view that the offence committed by the convicts was a serious one.

The three convicts were said to have abducted a Morrocan National, Abdulie Wazane at Brusubi.
