Traffic police officer testifies in court

Alfusaine Korteh, a police officer attached to Brikama Mobile Traffic Unit testified recently in the trial of one Lamin Ceesay, who is charged with rash and negligent act, causing dead.

In his testimony before the court, Officer Ceesay said on 12th September 2009, he was on duty at Brikama Mobile Traffic Unit when he received information that there was an accident involving a man and a truck at Kenbujeh Village, Western Region.

He said upon arrival at the scene, he found the vehicle on the road while the victim was rushed to the Brikama Health Centre where he was later pronnounced dead.

According to him, he made a sketch plan of the accident in the presence of the accused person who thumb-printed and later took the vehicle to the Brikama Police Station for necessary action.

He said at the Brikama Police Station the vehicle was tested and a testing certificate issued to the accused.

He adduced that he also obtained cautionary and voluntary statements from the accused in the presence of an independent witness.

The cautionary and voluntary statements were later tendered in court as exhibits, respectively.

The case was adjourned to 21july 2010 for continuation.
