Friday, February 20, 2009

Mr Lawrence A Toyinbo, a contemporary African Artist of Nigerian origin, is currently exhibiting his art works at the premises of the Alliance Franco Gambienne along

Kairaba Avenue
.

Speaking to Entertainment journalists shortly after the opening of the exhibition last Tuesday, Mr Toyinbo, who is also the art and craft teacher at the Marina International school, said the reason for the exhibition was to encourage Gambian Youths to take up arts as not only for business purposes, but also as a career. The objective of the exhibition is to encourage the up coming youth of The Gambia, so that they would have more sensitivity observation and appreciate the beauty of the arts. "I also want to organise a workshop to help upgrade the young ones who want to take up arts as a career," Mr Toyinbo added. "My painting is also geared towards promoting our rich culture as Africans. I also have the aim to carry a profession for young people in the arts. Corporate organisations and private home are invited. The exhibition is expected to end in February 2009.

For his part, Mr Badou Boob pointed out that, organising the exhibition in such a way will help the youth by creating more employment. He said Mr Toyinbo is a man with zeal, and he is an expert in his work. He called on the youth to engage with the profession to provide them with more skills and employment opportunities.
