The President Has Said It All

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

President Jammeh has called on The Gambia's U-17 World Cup team to do away with what he referred to as entertainment or fancy football and work towards bringing the trophy to The Gambia.

"No entertainment or fancy football, we need the trophy," says President Jammeh.

The Gambia's football Chief patron, who has challenged the players to bring the trophy home, said "Whether you play an entertaining football or not, what is important is to win the World Cup so that the senior national team can also emulate your achievement by winning the coveted World Cup trophy in 2014."

Our players must try their level best to become victorious while in Nigeria as they really have all what it takes to win. One thing that is clear is that the players must have at the back of their minds that they are there to represent the country and not in their individual capacity

Football is all about teamwork without which one would hardly succeed.

He advised the players not to take anything for granted, given the fact that the whole world will be keeping an eye on the two time African champions; hence they are the champions of Africa.

"You are going to the World Cup to play as a team and bring the trophy," President Jammeh challenged the players.

The Gambian leader tasked the players to work hard work so that they would realise their objective of winning the World Cup, noting that "if they work hard by the power of the Almighty Allah they will make it through discipline and hard work".

We also commend the President for motivating the players by given each an undisclosed amount of money and for billing the fans to cheer the boys in Nigeria.

Good luck and best of luck to our gallant men.
