Supposed Marabout Trial Opens

The trial of Ismaila Leigh, a supposed marabout, who was charged with obtaining money by false pretence opened before the Brikama magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Kayode.

Testifying, Abdoulie Sowe told the court that while at his home, the complainant Lamin Jawara came to his compound and told him that he came to see the accused. He said the complainant also told him that he gave the accused D12, 000 for him to help him travel to Spain and the accused told him not to reveal the arrangement to anyone.

Mr Sowe further told the court that he called the accused who told him that he was in Casamance and he will be returning soon, adding that since then he did not see the accused until he learned of his arrest.

The case was adjourned until 18th March 2009
