Sukuta spank BEM to stance in contention for Super Nawettan title

Sukuta on Wednesday defeated Barra, Essau and Mayamba 2-1 in the group A clash played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium to bounce back in contention for the 2015 Gambia Football Federation-sponsored Super Nawettan title.

The 2005 super nawettan champions Dembadou boys and North Bank Region boys lost to Brikama and Serrekunda West in the opening group A ties at the weekend.

Dembadou boys lost to Brikama 1-0 in the all-West Coast Region derby clash played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, whilst Barra, Essau and Mayamba also lost to Serrekunda West 2-0 at the weekend.

Sukuta and Barra, Essau and Mayamba came into the game for a victory over each other to recover in contention for the country’s community biggest football jamboree.

The Sukutarians were the better side as they notched in two goals to secure a slender win over the North Bank Region boys to clinch their first victory in the country’s annual community biggest football fray as well as to keep their title hopes alive.

The defeat was Barra, Essau and Mayamba’s second successive defeat in the 2015 super nawetan. The defeat has also kept them currently rooted at the bottom in group A with zero point in two games after losing to Sukuta and Serrekunda West 2-0 and 2-1 in their opening games.

The North Bank Region boys need to win their remaining group A fixtures to enhance their chances of sailing to the quarterfinals.

The victory has earned Sukuta third place in group A with the maximum 3 points in two games after their 2-1 win over Barra, Essau and Mayamba.

Brikama came from one nil down to draw 1-1 with the 2014 super nawettan champions Serrekunda East at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Elsewhere, Serrekunda West drew goalless with Banjul in the other group A game played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

Serrekunda West and Brikama are 1st and 2nd places in group A with 4 points each in two outings, and Sukuta are now 3rd place in group A with 3 points in two games after their 2-1 win over Barra, Essau and Mayamba.

Serrekunda East and Banjul are 4th and 5th in group A with 2 points each in two games, and Barra, Essau and Mayamba are languishing at bottom place in group A with zero point in two games after losing to Serrekunda West and Sukuta 2-0 and 2-1 in their two opening games.
