Some Gov’t officials in police net

Aug 8, 2016, 10:44 AM

According to reliable sources, some officials of government institutions were yesterday invited for questioning at the Kairaba Police Station, as a result of PAC/PEC report delivered to the President.

The 2014 report, by the joint session of the Public Accounts and Public Enterprises committees (PAC/PEC) of the National Assembly, is said to have alleged that discrepancies in financial transactions were uncovered.

The suspects are helping the police in their investigations.

Some of the arrests, according to sources, are in connection with loans taken from offices by some government officials.

It would be noted that in March this year, at the State Opening of the National Assembly, President Yahya Jammeh commended the Speaker of the National Assembly and members of PAC/PEC committee for a “job well done” by engaging all government institutions to present their financial reports, and said their recommendations will be taken seriously and assured them of his government’s support.

At the time of going to press, the officials were still detained for questioning.
