Seven Arrested Journalists Charged

Seven arrested journalists were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with three counts of seditious publication.

All the seven accused persons denied the charges. The seven were arrested on Monday 15th June 2009, and taken to the Headquarters of the National Intelligence Agency, where they had been held until last afternoon.

They all applied for bail, but was objected to by the Director of Public Prosecution, R.N Chenge.

The court granted Sarata Jabbi-Dibba bail in the sum of D200, 000, with two Gambian sureties because she is breast feeding mother.

Meanwhile, the six accused persons: Pap Saine, Sam Sarr, Ebrima Sawneh, Pa Modou Faal, Emil Touray and Abubacarr Saidy-khan, were all remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned to 22nd June 2009, for ruling on bail
