Set For Weekend Tourney In Dakar

Two Gambian golfers: Bakary Touray and Yusupha Tamba, are set for the Azziz Gueye International Golf Tournament, billed for June 20 2009 in Dakar

Banjul for Dakar, to undergo weeks of training in preparation for the upcoming Azziz Gueye annual golf tournament, named after the President of the Senegalese Golf Federation.

Banjul,  said "though the tournament has been taking place for several years, no Gambian has yet won the competition".

According to him, this year's would surely be a different year in the history of the tournament. Tamba also expressed delight at the treatment accorded to them in last year's tournament. He promised that he would do all that is necessary to produce a better result come June 20 2009.

Defending champion and three-time winner of the championship, Senegalese golfer Diadji Gueye, who is poised to put up a dogged challenge, also has eyes on this year's title. "I love this tournament and I have been winning. I am definitely going all out to win it again," Gueye enthused

As the winner of the last year's Azziz Gueye Golf tourney, Diadji received a trophy and a cash prize of 1Milion F CFA, while the first runner-up went home with 500,000.00F CFA and the 2nd runner-up also received 250,000.00F CFA.

 According to Diadji, this has always been the prize for the winners since its inception and will continue in the subsequent years.
