Senegalese women in the dock for alleged theft

Isa Ann, Fatou Joof, and Kumba Ngum, Senegalese nationals, were on 2 September 2015, arraigned before Magistrate Gomez of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft.

Prosecuting officer Sergeant 544 Jaiteh presented an indictment before the court, which stated that the accused persons, on 27 August 2015 at Serrekunda in the Kanifing Municipality, stole the following items: A packet of cloth valued at D4,000, 120 yards of cloth and two packets of cloth valued at D30,000, and four packets of cloth valued at D38,000, totaling D70,000.

One Muhammed Badou, Sheriffo Joof and Abdou Joof are the owners of the said items, according to prosecutors.

The accused did not accept responsibility.

Subsequently, Magistrate Gomez granted them bail of D100,000 each with a Gambian surety, who should swear to an affidavit of means, and to surrender his or her ID card to the court registrar.
