Sanchaba Football Tourney Underway

africa » gambia
Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Sanchaba Youth and Sports Association, the  football tournament which is contested by eleven (11) teams is currently underway at the Steve Biko football ground in Cape Point.

The tournament which kicked off last Saturday saw Kachically United beat New Town side Ron-Mango by a lone goal when Lam Tee converted a penalty spot for the only goal of the game to help the crocodile pool boys secured their first vital 3 points of the tournament.

The second game on Sunday witnessed a massive turn-out from football enthusiasts within Bakau which involved two outstanding teams in Magadan and Black Pool but Black Pool were the better side of the day when former Real De Banjul star Salla Benz put his name on the score sheet for his first goal of the tournament from a powerful long-range shot for his side's only goal of an action packed game.

The ultimate objective of organising this tourney according to the co-ordinator of the tournament Ebrima Erick Drammeh who is also part of the Bakau Youth and Sports Committee is to give chance to other youngsters who did not have the opportunity to take part in the nawettan competition and expressed hope that it will be an annual process.

He advised all the participating teams to exercise patience during the tournament noting that this kind of tournament will bring the people of Bakau back together so as to foster unity among themselves

Erick, as he is fondly called, finally appealed to the interested people to come to their rescue in order to help them sponsor the discipline, the most outstanding and the leading goal scorer awards which is their only problem in the tournament.

Meanwhile matches continue on Wednesday when Okocha F.C of New Town meet Junior Arms of Fajara Barracks while Milan F.C entertains D-Block on Thursday at Steve Biko Football field in Cape Point.
