Samger make it over Brikama, United in GFA 1st Division League

Academy boys Samger defeated reigning league champions Brikama United 2-1 in their re-scheduled Week10 fixtures played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-stadium last Thursday.

The academy boys made a superb start to the game by dominating ball possession and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities, which paid dividend to their efforts in the 12th minute of the game when striker Ebrima Sowe netted the opener and stunning strike to give his side the lead.

Brikama United responded back for an equaliser and created some goal chances but could not level the tally, which rendered Samger successful with a narrow lead.

Upon resumption of the game, Samger picked up where stopped and mounted pressure on Brikama United, as a result winger Lamin Sajor Samateh scored the second goal in the 75th  minute of the game after slashing Brikama United defence line to make it 2-0 for Samger.

Brikama United fought back for an equalizer but managed to pull back one through winger Basaikou Jawneh in the dying minute of the game, which gave them some consolation.

Elsewhere, FA Cup champions Telecommunications Gamtel thrashed blue boys Wallidan 3-1 in the other re-scheduled Week 10 fixtures played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on the same day

Gamtel opened the score through striker Alie Sowe in the 2nd minute of the game. Sanusi Jabbi doubled Gamtel’s lead in the 12th minute of the game from a brilliant free-kick, Alie Sowe sealed victory in the 82 nd minute of the game.

Solomon Jarjue’s own goal in the 75th minute of the game proved to be a consolation goal for Wallidan, who have so far collected 10 points in nine games with a game in hand, Gamtel have collected 13 points in nine games with a game in hand, while Brikama United have bagged 11 points in nine games with a game in hand, and Samger have collected 13 points in nine games with a game in hand.
