Samasang donates office equipment

Samasang Federation affiliated to Child Fund -The Gambia on Wednesday donated some valuable office equipment to Kabafita Brikama Sub-Station under the child unit.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, a community leader in Kabafita, Ebou Badjie, applauded the gesture, saying: "This donation will in no small measure help the police in their work."

The donation is a step in the right direction, he added, while appealing on behalf of the community for the Kabafita Sub-Station to be provided with a vehicle for effective and efficient operation in the community and its environs. He thanked Samasang profoundly "for the kind gesture" to the Gambia Police Force.

For his part, Samasang Federation Manager Edrisa Cham said he was delighted that his organisation had donated such important items to the Gambia Police Force, noting that the gesture was to complement government’s effort in national security and development.

"There cannot be any meaningful development without peace and stability and that the police are here to ensure that the lives and property of the people are well protected and safeguarded," Mr Cham averred, saying that security has a major role to play in the maintenance of peace and stability in a country.

He added: "The Samasang Federation deemed it is necessary to donate the office equipment to the Kabafita Sub-Station to enable the police keep their files and other official documents safely."

Speaking earlier, Deputy Commissioner Sainey Camara welcomed the donation, saying such a gesture will help the police to carry out their duty effectively and efficiently as well as enhance their ability to reduce crime rate in the area. He applauded Samasang for the support they have been rendering to the Gambia Police Force.

Momodou Jallow, Area Manager of Child Fund Brikama, also spoke on the importance of protecting young people from being affected by criminal activities in the community. "Young people are the future leaders of this country," he averred. "The Child Fund only stops at schools but they have gone beyond that level and are now participating in many other activities for the development of all.

"Child Fund is here to protect the wellbeing of the children. Therefore their involvement in supporting the security of this country is very important."

Other speakers on the occasion included the CEO of Brikama Area Council Momodou Jallow, who spoke on the need for the community to expose criminals and criminal activities in the community.

The presentation was attended by the Western Region Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sainey Camara; Regional Officer Commanding Western Region, Buba Jarsey; Chief Executive Officer of BAC, Momodou Jallow; Area Manager of Child Fund Brikama, Modou Jallow; Ward Councilor of Kabafita, Momodou Ceesay; and Immigration Commissioner of Western Region, Mr Jobarteh.
