The economic crime case involving the former Secretary General and Minister for Presidential Affairs, Momodou Sabally, yesterday failed to proceed before Justice Amadi of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

When the case was called, senior defence counsel AB Gaye informed the court that the accused was absent, as he called him at night to inform him that he (the accused) had lost his mother.

He said the accused called and told him that he was on his way to Lamin, where his mother lives, for the burial and, therefore, applied for an adjournment.

In response, DPP SH Barkun said he heard about the bereavement of the accused and was not objecting to the counsel’s application.

Justice Amadi adjourned the case to 12 May 2015.

Both the DPP and Justice Amadi extended their condolences to the accused through his counsel.
