ROC donates over four million to government

Taiwanese support the socio-economic advancement of The Gambia is showing no sign of abating, as Taiwanese ambassador to the Gambia Richard Shih within the space of twenty-four hours returned to State House on Tuesday 12th January 2010 to present yet another huge sum of money to the government.

This time, the chief Taiwanese diplomat was received by the new Secretary-General and Head of Civil Service, Dr. Njugo Bah, on behalf of government.

Ambassador Shih presented two cheques amounting to US$168,527 equivalent to over four million dalasis to the Gambia government for two sectors.

According to him, the first cheque valued at US$99,500 was meant for a solar street light project in the rural areas of the country, while the second cheque worth US$69,027 was earmarked for the purchase of rice milling systems.

He expressed his admiration in presenting the cheques on behalf of the Taiwanese government.

Ambassador Shih used the opportunity once more to thank the government and people of the Gambia for standing by Taiwan throughout.

He used the opportunity to hailed President Yahya Jammeh for the love he has for the country, and for the fast rate of development in the country.

In receiving the cheques, Dr. Njugo Bah applauded the Taiwanese government for the benevolent gesture. He recalled the recent support the Taiwanese rendered to the GRTS satellite project. All these, he added, are a manifestation of the love and care they have for the Gambia.
