Lamin Jahateh, news editor of The Point newspaper, Saturday morning left for Abuja, Nigeria, for a sub-regional training dubbed ‘Get to know Ecowas’, from 30 May to 3 June 2016.

The weeklong training for young West African journalists is organised by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission.

The programme on the theme ‘The role of journalists in advancing of the people’ is an initiative of FES aimed at providing the participants the opportunity to discover Ecowas.

Organisers said the event will also serve as a platform for the young journalists to interact with top officials of Ecowas institutions on the programme made so far in relation to the structure of the organisation and the programme of selected Ecowas departments.

The programme includes visits to Ecowas Parliament, Ecowas Court of Justice and the Nigeria Communication Commission.

Shortly before leaving, Mr Jahateh thanked the management of The Point newspaper for enabling him to partake in such a worthwhile training.

He said the knowledge gained will benefit not only the newspaper but also the entire Gambia through informed and insightful editorials and features.

The expected outcome is to have better informed and engaged Ecowas citizens through the media.
