Mr Baboucarr Senghore, Editor-in-Chief of The Point newspaper left Banjul yesterday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 2011 Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and the ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The weeklong event, to be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa from the 24th to 29th March, will bring together Ministers of Finance from across the continent.
Also to attend are experts, academics and senior officials from regional and international organizations including the UN system and the World Bank.

While in Addis Ababa, Senghore will join 22 other journalists from and across the continent, who will be attending and covering the conference on the theme "Governing Development in Africa: The role of the State".

The ministerial session will take place from 28th to 29th March 2011 and will be preceded by a technical preparatory meeting of the Committee of Experts to be held from the 24th to 27th March.

The theme of the conference builds on one of the outcomes of the 2010 conference, which underscored the role of the state in creating the required institutions and making the requisite investment based on a disciplined planning process for the transformation of African economies.

There will be a high-level policy dialogue on the theme of the Conference and parallel discussions on Health Financing, The Green Economy, and Leveraging Opportunities for Accelerated Growth.

Speaking in an interview with our reporter shortly before his departure, Senghore commended the management of The Point newspaper for giving him the opportunity to participate in this high level conference.

He said that the forum will broaden his knowledge as a journalist.
