Omar Njie's Tourney Underway

The 2009 Omar Njie's football tournament is currently underway in Wellingara Village in Kombo North, Western Region.

12 teams, namely Miami FC, Istanbol FC, Piccadilly FC, Victors FC, Toubabo FC, Pumpeh Bi FC, Blue Stars FC, Veterans FC, Talaban FC, Agric FC, Golden FC and William are taking part in the championship.

The tournament started in a thrilling encounter with Miami FC beating Istanbol FC 1-0 in the opening game, played at Wellingara Football Field.

Miami FC lone in the game was registered by striker, Badou Jassey in the 12th minute from a brilliant strike.

The tourney is organised to promote, improve and develop grassroots football in Wellingara.

The winner of the tournament will receive a giant trophy and a cash prize, while the runner-up will also walk home with a consolation prize and the leading goal scorer will also be honoured.
