The National Sports Council (NSC), which is highly committed to and steadfast in ensuring that sport is central to its national development goals and objectives, is set to organize a regional zonal football championship, according to the NSC Development Officer, Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy.

“It has taken the conscious decision of the NSC to usher in regional zonal football competition for 2013 and 2014 as a pilot programme to bring in regional football teams to first division league competition,” he added.

He said further: “Council is mindful of the fact that for the regional zonal competition to assume its pride of place as a crosscutting activity within the regions, a consultation and collaborative approach is required in order to solicit the desired outcomes.”

He remarked that the regional football zonal competition is expected to build on the successes to have first division regional teams included in the Gambia Football Association league.
