National Day - congratulations in advance

Oct 5, 2010, 12:20 PM

Each year, the tenth of October is considered the birthday of the Republic of China also known as Taiwan National Day.

The day is to celebrate the start of the Wuch'ang Uprising on the tenth of October 1911 which led to the collapse of the Qing dynasty, and marked a new chapter in the history ofs the Chinese people.

During this day, every year, people in Taiwan and overseas Taiwanese from all over the world come together to celebrate and cheer the national day.

The day is a great day for the people of the Island nation thanks to the many developments it brought to them.

Considering the country as it were 99 years ago and today's Taiwan one can simply conclude that it is a successful day worthy of celebrating.

Taiwan is in fact described as a miracle in Asia for its fast growing advancement.

We, therefore, wish to congratulate our Taiwanese brothers in advance on the occasion of their national day.

A total of 263 foreign dignitaries will attend this year’s National Day celebration.

Despite strong opposition from enemies, the people of Taiwan for many years continue to enjoy economic growth and true democracy, as well as political stability thanks to the efforts of its hard working citizenry and dynamic leadership.

We wish you once again a happy celebration in advance while acknowledging your immense contribution to the socio economic development of The Gambia.

Here in The Gambia, Taiwan's contribution to the various sectors of our economy such as education, health, agriculture, youth employment, infrastructure, disaster response, amongst others, is well-known.

It could be recalled that Taiwan suspended the celebration in 2009 after a deadly typhoon wrecked havoc in southern Taiwan, leaving more than 700 people dead.

However, in The Gambia, Ambassador Richard Shih and staff partnered with the ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Gambia Tourism Authority to clean the beaches, to mark the day.

It shows the true partnership and love the two countries have for one another.

Once more, congratulation in advance!
