Mobile Snatcher Sentenced

One Lamin Jammeh of Brikama was last Wednesday convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Fred Foster of the Brikama Magistrates' Court, to a fine of D3000, in default to serve three months in prison for stealing.

He was also ordered to compensate the complainant in the sum of D2000, in default to serve two months in prison.

According to the facts narrated by the Police Prosecutor 2294 Lamin Jammeh, it happened on 23rd June 2009, at Brikama. He said while the complainant Awa Jammeh was on her way to a programme, she received a phone call and the accused Lamin Jammeh who came from nowhere snatched the mobile phone (Samsung), valued at D2, 000 from her.

He adduced that the complainant reported the matter to the police when one Ebrima who identified the accused person led the police to the accused's residence where he was arrested and taken to the Brikama Police Station where he was charged with the offence committed.
