Man fined over D2,000 for damaging property

Magistrate Mb’ai of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Ousman Bojang to a fine of D2,500 in default to serve three months in prison upon his own plea of guilty to a charge of willful damage to property.

Facts as narrated by ASP Mballow stated that the complainant, Francis Gomez, on 8 October 2015, after work, parked his vehicle at Old Tipper Garage at Bakoteh where he entrusted it.

He came on 9 October 2015, and scented a fuel leakage. He double checked on the vehicle and realized that the pipe leading to the petrol tank was cut.

He enquired from the caretaker who informed him that he apprehended the accused who stole a battery in another vehicle, and surrendered him to the police station at Bakoteh.

The caretaker, Dawda Jallow, identified the accused who was confronted with the allegation and he admitted to cutting the said pipe of the vehicle, registration number WD 3697A.

The accused was cautioned and charged.

The charge sheet stated that on 8 October 2015, at Bakoteh in the Kanifing Municipality, he willfully and unlawfully damaged a fuel tank pipe of a motor vehicle, registration number WD 3697A marked DAFF, the property entrusted to Francis Gomez.
