Man fined D15,000 for criminal offence

A man called Lamin Saidy was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D15,000 in default to serve six years in prison by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Abeke.

Lamin Saidy was convicted upon his own plea of guilt of the offence charged and was subsequently sentenced accordingly.

The court also ordered the recovered items to be returned to the complainant.

According to the charge sheet, on15 March 2011, at Brikama, the convict, Lamin Saidy, entered into the shop of one Mamajang Jallow and stole the following: six Gamcel scratch cards of D20 valued at D120, eight Comium scratch cards of D25 valued at D200, five QCell scratch cards of D25 valued at D125, nine Africell scratch cards of D25 valued at D225, three packets of bond cigarette valued at D60, fourteen sticks of bond cigarette valued at D14, fourteen sticks of Monticarrol valued at D12.25 and a cash of D370.
