Man convicted for burglary, theft

A magistrate court in Basse, in the Upper River Region recently convicted and sentenced one Galajo Kanteh, a resident of Basse to a fine of D10, 000, in default to serve six months in prison on charges of shopbreaking and stealing.

The convict was also ordered to compensate the complainant the sum of D5, 225, in default to serve a further term of one year in prison.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charges before the presiding Magistrate T.A. Alaube.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the convict, Galajo Kanteh in the early hours of 26th February 2010, at Basse Kaaba Kunda broke into the shop of one Sanna Wally with intent to commit a felony therein to wit stealing.

Count two stated that on the same day and month, the convict stole from the shop of the said Sanna Wally, the following items: half carton of custard, valued at D300, half carton of double deck tin milk, valued at D400, five tins of condense milk, valued at D225, thirty packets of El Hella green tea, valued at D360, one hundred and eight cigarettes, valued at D900, one dozen of small packets of China green tea, valued at D25, one packet of tissue paper, valued at D30, twenty bars of toilet soap, valued at D120 and five dozens of body cream, valued at D3250. The total value of the items is estimated at D5, 510.
