Magistrate Mb’ai of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Alhagie Ngum to keep the peace for a period of two years, after he pleaded guilty to threatening violence.

In his plea of mitigation, Ngum said he regretted the act because he was shocked seeing the complainant, who is his girlfriend, dating a white man.

He begged the court for mercy, and said it would never happen again.

The facts as narrated by Sgt 544 Jaiteh stated that it happened on 7 October 2015, at Senegambia.

The accused was driving his vehicle and saw the complainant, Binta Keita, and a white man, Norbert Weber, walking along the street in Senegambia.

The accused stopped and approached the two and condemned them for dating, since he (the accused) has been dating the complainant.

Binta and Norbert were annoyed about the accused threatening to kill them, and the matter was later reported to Kololi Police Station where the accused was charged with the offence of threatening violence.

The charge sheet stated that on 7 October 2015, at Senegambia in the Kanifing Municipality, Ngum with intent to intimidate and annoy Norbert Weber and Binta Keita, threatened to kill them.
