Gambia defender Omar Jawo made his debut for his new Swedish Allsvenskan side Syrianska in Sunday 1-1 home league game against former club Gefle.

The 29-year-old Gambian defender, who moved from Gefle to Syrianska in the same league this season after serving at Gefle for two seasons, was all out for 90minutes in Sunday night's opener.

Gefle IF released Jawo, who made a total of 51 appearances for the side in two years, due to financial reasons after failing to re-sign him.

The defender has so far won numerous caps for the Gambia. He was key to the Scorpions' consolation goal during the Gambia's 3-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the second game of the 2012 qualifiers in October last year.

Norway

Ebrima Sohna and Kristian Brix commenced their 2011 campaign with Norwegian side Sandefjord at Division one (second highest level) with a goalless draw with Honefoss on Sunday.

Sohna dropped with Sandefjord from the top tier league last season following the team's poor performance. Teammate and Gambian compatriot joined club following a move from former club Valerenga in the Eliteserien last year.

Brix's move was linked with his lack of enough playing time at Valerenga.  He was part of the eleven that held Honefoss in Sunday’s home draw.
