Lawyer Edu Gomez Makes A Come Back

Following his earlier withdrawal from Modou Manga's case, Lawyer Edu Gomez has reversed his decision and decided to make a come back into the case to defend his client.

After the Sheriff and Master of the High Court, Pa Harry Jammeh revoked the bail granted to the accused Modou Manga by the former Magistrate Buba Jawo on 13th August 2009, and granted him a new bail, Lawyer Edu Gomez in strong terms told the court that his client was unconstitutionally detained at Mile 2 Central Prisons.

He further said that he could not see himself in a scenario where the image of the country is tarnished. As a result, he announced his withdrawal from the case.

The case could not proceed on 20th August 2009, to which it was adjourned because Pa Harry Jammeh was indisposed. On this day, Lawyer Edu Gomez, the Defence Counsel was present in court, along with the Prosecutor Cadet Inspector Mballow.

The accused person, Modou Manga, who has now joined his family after eleven months in detention, was also present in court.

It could be recalled that the first prosecution witness in the case testified against the accused. The Defence Counsel started cross-examining him after he had given his evidence-in-chief. However, the Defence Counsel could not finish the cross-examination and the case was adjourned.

When it resumed for continuation of the cross-examination, the prosecution witness was no where to be found and again the case was adjourned for him to appear in court. At the resumption of the case again, he was absent and the court was made to understand that he had absconded.
