Impersonator jailed

Magistrate Dago of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Amadou Baldeh on charges of impersonation in general and stealing.

Baldeh was sentenced on count one to six months in prison and another six months in prison on count two.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

The charge sheet on count one read that, on 17 February 2012 at Sobeya Skills Training Center at Churchill’s Town in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused person, Amadou Baldeh, with intent to defraud, falsely represented himself to be a Qcell staff and collected four mobile phones from the following people: Fatou Samura, Fatou Jaiteh, Aja Jammeh and Marie Badjie, with the pretext that they have won fabulous prizes from Qcell and he was going to update credit on their phones, which representation was false.

Count two read that he stole four mobile phones marked Nokia double SIM valued at D1,325, Huawei phone valued at D1,500, Samsung phone Valued at D1,250 and LG phone valued at D1,250 respectively, all being the properties of the said people.
