Tuesday, July 21, 2009

As part of the activities marking the July 22nd Anniversary celebrations, the Gambia Immigration Athletic team is preparing ahead of the championship.

The team have since started preparation for the big event six (6) weeks ago, under the guidance of the Head Coach of the Athletic team, Cadet Inspector Muhammed Phatty, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

'I have full confidence in my boys because some of them have gained a lot of experience at the international athletic competitions having represented The Gambia in countries like India, Togo, Algeria, Guinea Bissau, Mali and other countries, Muhammed Phatty revealed to Pointsport on Monday.

'I can assure you that the Immigration Athletic Team will perform to the maximum level, because the team have been training together, working hand-in-glove ahead of the championship," he stated.

The Head Coach of the Immigration Female Team, Cpl. Isatou Touray, said the female team is training intensively in preparation for the much-anticipated July 22nd Athletic championship and remained confident of Immigration's possibility of achieving great results in the championship, noting that they have the best athletes, compared to other departments, Isatou Touray told our reporter on Monday.

For his part, Lamin Camara, an Immigration Officer who is also regarded as the best Gambian sprinter also remained optimistic that his department will put up a respectable performance during the championship.

Lamin Camara has a total of four national athletic caps under his name, and his first international appearance for the Gambia on July 21st 2006 in Cote D' Voire, after finishing first in the 100-metre race.

He also represented the country in various International Athletic Championships, such as Guinea Bissau in 2008, Senegal in 2007 and Mali recently.

Lamin further went on to help Immigration win the first Gamstar sponsored athletics championship last year, hoping to repeat the same momentum in the forthcoming July 22nd athletics championship which is just at the corner.
