Home-based Scorpions leave for int’l tourney today

The home-based national football team will leave Banjul today, Thursday 13th November 2014 for Senegal, ahead of the start of the tournament, to join three other selections from Senegal, a Gambia Football Federation (GFF) media release announced.

The tournament was organised by a FIFA-licenced player agent, Samba Diallo.

The GFF has finished preparations and arrangements for the home-based Scorpions selection to participate in the international friendly tournament in Mbour, Senegal, slated for 14th to 16th November 2014, the release added.

“The GFF will also use the event to hone the skills of the national team from a selection of home-based players for the forthcoming CHAN tournament in which The Gambia will take part in the qualifying series and other forthcoming invitational tournaments”, it further stated.

The GFF had put together a 40-member squad for training at the National Technical Training Centre in Yundum in readiness for the tourney in Senegal.

The provisional team is being guided by coaches Abdoulie Bojang, Matarr Mboge and Foday Bah who have finally trimmed the selection to a standard list for the Senegal tourney.

The final twenty-member squad members are: Bubacarr Sanyang Brikama United, Modou Jatta Steve Biko, Sampier Mendy Gamtel, Salieu Krubally Real De Banjul, Alieu Jatta Brikama United, Sulayman Saho Brikama United, Lamin Saho Wallidan, Alagie Bah Real De Banjul, Ebou Kanteh Brikama United, Madi Fatty Real De Banjul, Bully Drammeh Brikama United, Alagie Nyabally Real De Banjul, Bakary Njie Wallidan, Kebba Ceesay Steve Biko, Saikou Conteh Steve Biko, Ebrima Tunkara Steve Biko, Fredrik Fladby Nordstrand Norway, Demba Janneh Steve Biko, Assan Ceesay Gamtel and Modou Lamin Manneh Wallidan.

Ten officials selected for the team are: Abdoulie Bojang head coach, Foday Bah assistant coach, Matarr Mboge assistant coach, Alagie Marong goal keeper trainer, Khalifa Manneh team doctor, Pa Matarr Ndow physio, Amadou LS Jaiteh kits manager, Joseph Sambou team manager, Alagie Faye Exco member and Ebou Secka NSC.

The GFF is asking for the support and prayers of all stakeholders for a successful campaign in its first international engagement for the national team.
