Seven Journalists to Re-appear in Court Today

The seven Gambian journalists who were last Thursday, 18th June 2009, arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court on three counts of seditious publication are expected to appear in court today.

The court is expected to deliver ruling on the bail today for the six remanded journalists.

Those remanded in custody were Pap Saine, Co-Publisher and Managing Editor of the Point Newspaper, Ebrima Sawaneh, the Point's News Editor, Sam Sarr, Editor of Foroyaa Newspaper, Pa Modou Faal of the Point and Treasurer of the Gambia Press Union, Emil Touray, the Secretary-General of the Gambia Press Union and Abubacarr Saidykhan, a reporter with Foroyaa Newspaper.

Meanwhile, Sarata Jabbi-Dibba, the First-Vice President of the Gambia Press Union was since Thursday 18 June 2009, granted bail in the sum of D200, 000, with two Gambian sureties.
