Gunjur United on Sunday defeated visiting Foni Berefet 1-0 in the week-six fixtures played at the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field, to regain top spot in the 2014 West Coast Region third division league.

Both sides made some astonishing start to the game and launched series of goal-scoring opportunities but the first half ended blank.

Upon resumption of the game, both sides brought in several fresh legs to boost their attacking tag but it was Gunjur United whose substitutions yield dividend as they controlled Foni Berefet in the midfield and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities.

Gunjur United opened the tally through creative midfielder Arafang Jobe in the 66th minute from an astonishing header from substitute Alagie Sarr’s cross to give his side the lead, which eventually proved to be the winner for the South boys.

The visitors fought back for an equalizer but could not threaten Gunjur United’s formidable defence line, thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Gunjur United.

The victory has catapulted Gunjur United to the top spot on the league table with 13 points in six games, while Foni Berefet are still struggling with only 3 points in five games with a game in hand against Brufut United.
